Week Fourteen

Only a few updates this week...

* I'm still looking for some volunteers for my literacy centers during the month of December. I updated the Sign-Up Genius page with more dates.

* One of our big goals in kindergarten is building independence! With that being said, please continue to practice zipping coats, pulling sleeves out of coats when they're inside out, putting on snow pants/boots/gloves/hats on their own. Also, even if it isn't snowing, it's nice to have the kids in boots when they're out at recess. Not only do the boots keep them warmer, but the playground is often very muddy and they track that mud into the classroom when they have their tennis shoes on outside.  

* Please check the "Calendar" tab for important December dates to mark on your calendar.

* December book orders are due online by Tuesday, December 10th. Books are a great stocking stuffer idea : )


What are we doing in school?

* Literacy: This week we did a lot with the first and last sound/ letter in words, more specifically in their own names and in their classmates names. We also are doing a lot with sight words.

* Writing: We're still working on true story narratives. When telling stories, we've been saying "first ____ next____ then____". Continue to talk about 3 event stories at home.

* Math: We're done with shapes and have moved on to numbers 11-30, really focusing on the teens this week. They're starting to understand that the teens mean "ten and then some ones". We will move into the 20's next week.

*Science: With Gingerbread being our theme this month, we are focusing on the five senses in science. We will spend the rest of this month exploring our sense in a variety of ways.
