* We had a great visit with author Lester Laminack and learned all about how his writing process works and where he gets his ideas and characters from. It was really neat to hear how all of his books came from his own life experiences and some of the characters are even students he has met while traveling to different schools. We have writers notebooks in our classroom, just like Lester, so it's been fun to see how excited everyone is to use those notebooks to write stories or to write their ideas down in it. Those will be coming home this week so you can check them out and even continue to use them over the summer.
* This week you will also find your child's reading bag coming home filled with a ton of paper copied books. You may keep those along with the bag at home now. No need to return any of it to school. We ordered new reading bags for next year since many of those are getting torn and worn out. These paper books incorporate our kindergarten and some first grade sight words and would be great practice over the summer to continue to revisit them.
* As mentioned in my email, our smoothie party will be on Thursday at 2:30. I've received a lot of response in people wanting to come, so feel free to join us if you're available. I might not need everyone's help but if you'd like to be a part of our celebration then we'd love to have you!
* Thank you for all the Hike for Hunger donations we received last week! All bags need to be returned by Tuesday. We will be going on our "hike" on Wednesday at 12:30 with Miss. Mitchell's class.
* An overdue library book list was sent to all Lakeside families. Please make sure to return all books this week.
