Week Sixteen

* I'd like to start by thanking all of you for the very generous gift that I was given during our holiday party. I am so so lucky to have such supportive parents to work with and the most wonderful children in my class this year. It honestly makes me love my job more and more when I'm surrounded by all of these smiling faces each and every day. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

*There will be a Kidz Have Rights parent evaluation form in Friday folders. Please fill out this form and return sometime next week.

* We were able to go to the library (Learning Commons) for the first time this year now that it up and running again! We will have library every Wednesday, so make sure your child's books are returned each week. Everyone will get to check out two books, one fiction and one non-fiction.

* January Scholastic Book orders are due next Thursday, January 14th by 4:00 pm.

* Friday folders are filled with lots of papers! You will find...
     - Narrative writings
     - Finished/unfinished work from before our holiday break
     - Finished work from this week
     - Math journal pages

What we are learning...

* Literacy: this week we focused on hearing blends at the beginning of a word i.e. clam crab slug, etc. We also worked on rhyming words and sight words.

* Math: This week we started our chapter on subtraction. There are some homework pages that your child can complete for additional practice at home.

* Writing: We began a new unit on how-to writing. We are thinking of things we know how to do (i.e. making a snowman, playing a sport/ game, making a sandwich, getting dressed, etc.) and are teaching the steps.  Everyone seems super excited to start a new kind of writing and are doing great with it!

* Science: Our next unit will be on our five senses. We will start this next week.
