* I will not be doing regular reading groups these next two weeks because of all the assessments I need to get done for report cards. Instead, you child will be given a new book that is at their independent reading level. This means that they should be able to read this book without any help. They will not be reading this book at all in school, so when they read it at home it will be their first time.
* On Monday, we will be doing a lot of activities to celebrate Martin Luther King day. Our morning will start with an assembly in the gym with a presentation about "kids serving kids". This means we will be learning about ways in which we can help "serve" (help/support) other kids either in or community or even at other schools, like our sister school, Godfrey Lee Elementary. We will also have a school-wide Peace March starting at 10:30 where we will be walking down Hall St., turning right on Pinecrest, turning right on Burchard, turning right on Breton and then back to Lakeside. If you live on any of those streets or would like to watch our march, we're asking parents to line the streets/sidewalks at that time. Lastly, in the afternoon, we will be watching a play presented by Bright Star Theater about "Black History Hall of Fame" where the kids will learn about people who have contributed to shaping our nation's past, present and future.
* In Friday folders you will find a class photo. Everyone in the class gets a copy this year.
* We have officially finished our handwriting books! Yay! So now your child has learned how to correctly write all upper and lowercase letters. They also got a lot of practice writing words on different types of lines. We will continue to practice handwriting throughout the year and our next focus specifically will be writing our names =)
