Hike for Hunger

On May 23rd, Lakeside is holding our annual Mane Event, a Hike for Kids.
This is a walk to benefit children in our community.  During the school day, students will walk by class from Lakeside in the neighborhood surrounding or if enough time and weather permits they may choose to walk to the East Grand Rapids High School track and back.  This walk is an annual event that we as a school community have supported since 2009. This is a walk is done by kids and for kids.  Our hope is to show that kindness really does count. The monies raised to sponsor The Mane Event Hike for Kids will be donated to the Hearts of Gold Campaign, Kids Food Basket, and the Lakeside Kindness Counts Scholarship fund.
Hearts of Gold has partnered with Billy Bear Hug Foundation for this year's football game which will take place on Friday, October 10, 2014.  The Billy Bear Hug Foundation donates teddy bears and helps grant wishes to sick children. Kids Food Basket is a community of donors and volunteers feeding thousands of hungry children each school day.  Kids’ Food baskets committed to attacking childhood hunger to help young people learn and live well. The Lakeside Kindness Counts Scholarship fund is an annual honor given to an East Grand Rapids senior who exhibits extraordinary service to others.
How it works:
On May 16th, Lakeside students will bring home a brown paper lunch bag( symbolizing the Kids’ Food Basket Sack supper)   This will be used in 3 ways – a brief explanation of the program, to use as a pledge form, and also to collect and return pledge money in.  Our personal goals can be as simple as feeding one child for one week or to raise enough money to purchase a bear for a sick child. Both of these commitments would equal about $5.00 each.
Please make sure each child receives a bag, with the pledge form attached, to bring home with them.  Briefly explain that they can gather pledges in the bag and return to school with them by Monday May 26th
Some great ideas for earning pledges to send home with students are:  car washes, lemonade stands, pet walking, bake sales, yard work, etc.
We are hoping each child will want to participate in the Mane Event, Hike for Kids, however participation is optional.
Thank you for your support!
