Week Twenty-Two

* Our valentine's party will be tomorrow from 2:20-3:20. All are welcome to come even if you aren't apart of the party committee. Please make sure to send 25 addressed or unaddressed valentines to school in the morning. If you are not addressing them, at least make sure your child's name is on them so the kids know who they're from. We will be distributing them during the party.

* February book orders are due by Tuesday the 25th. Please submit your order online.

* Save the date!! The kindergarten art gala will be on Tuesday, March 18th from 5:30-7:00 at the PAC.  We are working on the art pieces as we speak!

* Remember, NO SCHOOL NEXT WEEK!! Please enjoy this time off! I'll be thinking about all of you who are heading south!

* When we return on Monday, February 24th, it will be our 100th day of school! Please see the blog post below for more information regarding this special day!

* Lakeside conferences will be held on March 27th and April 1st. Remember- you will be given the same day/time slot that you had in the fall. If this time absolutely does not work, please contact me asap!

What we are learning about in school:

* Literacy: We are still working on short and long vowel sounds. We are also doing a lot with word families. i.e. words ending in -an, -am, -at, -ot, -it, -op, -ay, etc. Everyone is starting to make the connection that when we know one word (cat) then we know how to write other words that rhyme with it (bat, sat, fat, pat, etc.) and that all we have to do is change the first sound. Some are even making this connection with longer words like "look" and "book" or "will" and "hill". It's exciting to see when these connections are made! 

* Writing: We are wrapping up narrative writing this week! Yippee! Everyone has done such a wonderful job writing a sequential story with at least three parts to it. I will be sending more writing home when we return to school on the 24th. We will be starting a new unit on the 24th- How-to's! I can't wait to get this unit started!

* Math: This month, we have been learning about telling time to the hour and to the half-hour. When we return to school, we will start learning about money and counting coins.

* Social Studies: We will spend a little time focusing on patriotism and different US symbols.
