* We had a GREAT 100th day of school this week! Thank you for taking the time to make those awesome shirts with your child. They were all so excited to share what they made and everyone came up with some really creative shirts! You can see pictures on shutterfly.
* A big THANK YOU to all the parents who helped with the Valentine's Day party! The kids had a fun time and all the snacks/games were great!

* In your child's blue homework folder you will find another stack of narrative writing. We are officially done with narratives and have started writing how-to's!! The kids are loving it! But just like I asked before, please sit down with your child and read the work they've brought home. During the past two months, we were really working on making our writing more "readable" to others.
* We will be starting a new theme on Monday- Oceans! If you have any shells at home that you'd like to donate, please send them my way!
What we are learning about in school...
* Literacy: This week we focused on writing words in syllable chunks so that we can hear more sounds in a word. i.e. jellyfish- jel/e/fish (as they would spell it) or marker- mar/ker We also learned about number words- that each number they write actually has a word that goes with it.
* Math: We are still learning about telling time to the hour and to the half-hour, but I have also introduced two coins- the penny and the nickel. We will continue with money next week, but then we will start focusing on measurement.
* Writing: We have started a new unit on how-to writings which means they are writing the steps needed to teach someone how to do something.
* Social Studies: I have introduced many important US symbols such as the American flag, the White House, The President, the bald eagle, the Statue of Liberty, George Washington, etc.
